So in my Room Mom duties I went on the field trip to the capital today and redisovered my love for Andrew Jackson. Now there was a real live man, let me tell you. He was arrested by the Brits at ten for constantly hiding in the bushes, waiting for officers to ride near a puddle before shooting their horse in the bum with his sling-shot, causing said horse to rear, toss soldier into the mud and take off leaving said soldier stranded. Later he was arrested again, at twelve...the Brit who arrested him had him told him he was a prisoner of war and to clean his boots...Andy told him get stuffed--if I am a prisoner you will treat me as such. The soldier was so incensed at his insolence, he drew his sword, Andy deflected his blade with his arm leaving him with a scar on his arm and cheek and instilling in him an intense hatred for the Brittish. He kicked ass at the Battle of New Orleans. He was an enormous patriot, a man of honor, and fiercely loyal. He was positively mad for his wife and shot a man in the street for insulting her. He was known to have participated in over a hundred duels and his friends joked he was so full of bullets he "rattled like a bag of marbles". Plus--nice hair. Andrew Jackson rocked.
The kids were hilarious. We had fabulous weather and a fun picnic on the mall. After, I went back to the class and helped the kids each paint a wee pumpkin for our Pirate Chest we are making for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest for Fall Fest at school. They painted them red, blue and green, and I will glitter them all, along with a massive white pumpkin, then put them all in a "chest" with various other loot and gems and coins and such. Pirates--Arrrrrrrrrg! We are so gonna win that contest!
