MAN, I have not been here in AGES!

*blows dust off LJ*

Hope everyone is fairing well. I am gearing up for the end of school for the kid and the beginning of a massive re-write. Daunting, but I am actually excited at the prospect. I am up to my eyeballs in voodoo research which is fabulously fun...as long as the lights are on!

Gah...I must go clean bathrooms.

Must make a note to hunt for a cleansing spell...

Gatherings [Oct. 13th, 2006|10:13 pm]

[music |John Mayer ~ Continuum]

I have been slammed with family gatherings. They have been great, don't get me wrong, but it is very taxing. We went to my cousin's for a barbecue supper and birthday extravaganza for a couple of other cousins who shared this weekend with my grandfather's big 90th. Tomorrow Granddaddy will have his big day and it will be so lovely and a little bit of a relief to have it over with. My cousin Scott recorded my grandfather for 2 hours today, capturing loads of information to preserve on cd. We learned how important that is when my grandmother lost her memories to Alzheimer's and now we have no one left to answer so many questions about our family on her side.

There was delicious strawberry cake and loads of chatter and I am so tired.

Tomorrow I must get all the stuff for the pumpkin cause I spent all day today erranding for the party. We did get my daughter some great boots which wil double as pirate boots for her costume but don't look like a hooker so she can wear them to school.

Field Trip [Oct. 8th, 2006|10:00 pm]

[music |Norah Jones-the prettiest thing]

So in my Room Mom duties I went on the field trip to the capital today and redisovered my love for Andrew Jackson. Now there was a real live man, let me tell you. He was arrested by the Brits at ten for constantly hiding in the bushes, waiting for officers to ride near a puddle before shooting their horse in the bum with his sling-shot, causing said horse to rear, toss soldier into the mud and take off leaving said soldier stranded. Later he was arrested again, at twelve...the Brit who arrested him had him told him he was a prisoner of war and to clean his boots...Andy told him get stuffed--if I am a prisoner you will treat me as such. The soldier was so incensed at his insolence, he drew his sword, Andy deflected his blade with his arm leaving him with a scar on his arm and cheek and instilling in him an intense hatred for the Brittish. He kicked ass at the Battle of New Orleans. He was an enormous patriot, a man of honor, and fiercely loyal. He was positively mad for his wife and shot a man in the street for insulting her. He was known to have participated in over a hundred duels and his friends joked he was so full of bullets he "rattled like a bag of marbles". Plus--nice hair. Andrew Jackson rocked.

The kids were hilarious. We had fabulous weather and a fun picnic on the mall. After, I went back to the class and helped the kids each paint a wee pumpkin for our Pirate Chest we are making for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest for Fall Fest at school. They painted them red, blue and green, and I will glitter them all, along with a massive white pumpkin, then put them all in a "chest" with various other loot and gems and coins and such. Pirates--Arrrrrrrrrg! We are so gonna win that contest!

new horizons... [Oct. 3rd, 2006|10:48 pm]

Feels like the beginning, of what I am not quite certain.

*shrugs*

This week was the first Monday I was not scheduled at my old job in over 5 years. Maybe that is what has me all weirded out. Anyway, I love my new job and the schedule so there you go.

I feel like I need to start my re-write and that has me all jittery and anticipatory inside. I am slightly excited and a little nervous, but it feels like I might get through it this time. The beginning keeps popping into my head...I just have to figure where I want to pick up, and I think I have worked out my issues with the character who was giving me fits. The pesky fairies will not let me rest until I tell their story and I am tired of fighting them, wicked, wondrous things.

Finally watched Walk the Line...it was marvelously done. I just love Johnny Cash and I thought all the players were outstanding.

My friend was deployed today. Left on a carrier for God only knows where. He is a good soldier and one tough article. The enemy will not be glad to see him arrive be assured. His wife is my friend as well, and they are expecting a baby in late January. Any thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Also my grandparents' house is sold, officially closed today. Gone. No more Easter egg hunts, snow days, christmas sleepovers, walks to the creek, making salt dough Christmas ornaments with the cousins, family meals and birthdays...sleeping out in the 'big den'in sleeping bags to watch Willy Wonka and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. My grandparents lived in that house for over forty years. As I said...feels like changes are swirling round me like leaves on the wind.

On a completely unrelated note, it was a thousand degrees today and I am over it. It is FALL. Well, we are supposed to get storms and cool off tomorrow night so I will hope for cooler weather then.

I think I will bake a pie tomorrow.

Weekend--woot!

Of course I have to work tomorrow so bleh, but it is my last day there. Hope the nice personality of the soon to be former boss decides to show her face. Otherwise it will be a long freaking day.

Got new jeans today. I went to Gap and was terrified at the wall of jeans--bootcut, curvy, boyfriend, low rise, ankle, skinny...It was a nightmare. Thank goodness for like-Anna, the like-very helpful chicky who assisted me. I am really between sizes but I MUST have a new pair cause th eold ones are falling off and it is annoying and borders on obscene sometimes!

So bootcut original. Though I really liked the boyfriend cut, but they were just too damn long and to get the proper length meant order on-line and I needed them NOW.

Must deal with dinner....

*brushes off cobwebs*

Whoa...been ages since I have posted here. I just seem to have very little time for such business these days.

Kid is back in school and I am room mom...again. I am actually enjoying it. 4th grade is so much better than 3rd was. The teacher is awesome too, and the child loves school again.

Changes for May...I work this Saturday for the last time at my wee shop job. Funny, I thought I would be a little blue over it, but I am done. Already started a new job at my favorite local coffee spot and it is perfect--very busy so time flies, and I am off in plenty of time to meet the kid after school. Plus, new boss appears to be sane, which is unusual for me. Hope it lasts. The pay is better too, and I get one snappy free coffee drink, plus all the brewed coffee I can consume so yay for me! The great thing is I am not tempted to blow my check on cute things like at the shop, so even better. The hours give me time to dash and run a quick errand or swap laundry and vaccum and such and get supper ready. I hope it will be a good fit. So far it seems great. The crew I work with is a riot too. College age mostly, and the owner is around my age, though she is in and out.

I wrote some great things while working at the shop...well fun for me. I dunno about great, but certainly long-winded! *Cough* Eclipse *cough* My own story is under major re-construction, and I have mapped and researched so much I feel far better prepared to re-write. I am told the re-write is not so bad once you get started, but I want to get all my i's dotted and t's crossed so I can crank a bit. My personal library of magical books has grown immensely. I'm pretty sure my buddies at Borders and Barnes & Noble think I am some kind of freak for the books I buy. They often give me the hairy eyeball when I check out. I think it's cause I don't especially look the part. Some of them understand though. They are freaks like me. One girl wears HP earrings and we have chatted up all the latest HP news.

OoOo! I loved the pics of the new film...Luna looks fantastic. So does Ginny. And I am not sure who the long haired Ravenclaw laddie is but he is too cute! I can't wait to see the new film! They are all looking quite English, I must say, and oh gods, Umbridge with the kitty plates. It will be loads of fun. As to the last book...take your time Jo. I never want the magic to end.

Hope everyone is doing well...blessed be!

Holy smokes...been ages since I was here.

Busy summer...winding down.

Tracy sent this and I did it...funny, albeit random.

Social Life at Hogwarts

Your friends love you. You aren't well-known around the school, just within your house. You are very outgoing and love to have fun. You get decent marks in class and play quidditch.

Harry: Doesn't know you very well, but thinks your nice and funny.

Ron: Thinks your a good person and wishes he was as good in Quidditch as you.

Hermione: She thinks you should think more about your grades, but thinks you are still a good role-model.

Ginny: Thinks you are the perfect role-model and hopes she'll be like you, which means she wants to have guy friends like you.

Neville: Doesn't talk to you because you are older than him and are kind of intimidating.

Fred and George: Fred thinks you are a great prankster partner and George has a crush on you. They love that you always help them with their pranks.

Oliver Wood: Has a huge crush on you, probably because you are just as quidditch obsessed as he is.

Cedric Diggory: Thinks you were a great quidditch player and thanked you profusely (before he died) for setting him up with Cho.

Cho Chang: She is like your younger sister. You watch over her and you were the one who set her up with Cedric. She adores you and will miss you when you graduate.

Lavender Brown: Doesn't know you very well. Doesn't talk to you either.

Draco Malfoy: Only knows your name and hates you for always kicking his arse in quidditch.

Pansy: Doesn't know you.

Crabbe and Goyle: Same as Pansy

Dumbledore: Thinks you are a very bright witch.

McGonagall: You are the apple of her eye. You are excellent in Transfiguration.

Hagrid: Likes you because you are nice to him.

Snape: Hates you. You suck at potions and he doesn't let you forget it.

Voldemort: Doesn't think of you as a threat or possible ally. Doesn't care about you at all.

Reputation: The Quidditch Girl.

Hmmm....

Well It's been a while, no?

I figured May Day was the perfect time to nip in and say hello to those of you who might have wondered what happened to me.

Life I suppose. Things have been madness...

Soon, I am off to the beach, so I will vanish again but I will be seated beneath my blue umbrella sipping frozen drinks. Bliss.

Hope to be about more when I return. School is out soon and I am thrilled. Third grade sucks. We are glad to be DONE.

Meanwhile, the beach is calling....

Blessed be...

What's new... [Oct. 28th, 2005|11:02 am]

[mood |busybusy]
[music |Killers ~ All These Things That I've Done...]

Halloween is upon us...almost anyway!I just love it and it has cooled off nicely, so that improves my mood. I hate to sweat in my festive costume.

I am trying to forget that I am supposed to be in fucking New Orleans RIGHT NOW.

I have fabulous wicked fairy wings for Halloween trick-or-treat, and I am sporting my traditional witch garb for work. My hat rocks...*cackles proudly*

The child will be a festive black kitty with a white tummy. Her costume is a darling velour catsuit with a tail and head-piece so ears too. Plus lovely cuffs and collar in white feathers, and a pink bow. I will try to get a picture up but I suck with the digital camera. I have decided to ask for one for Christmas and I even found the one I want, so yay!

Also I have started shopping for the big Christmas so that's good. Not much but I am getting my list together and such.

For some reason I have been listening to Killers all the time and I freaking love the song "All These Things That I've Done". Yeah...you know you've gotta help me out yeah, oh don't you put me on the back burner...I got soul but I'm not a soldier... They just rock.

I have massive cleaning and organizing to do, errands, grocery, burn the Third Grade horrid teacher in effigy...did I say that out loud?

Also...it is time to get serious with my re-write. I have been researching and getting the info I need to re-work the intro and reinvent the character who requires edge, but I am beginning to think it will mean pretty much starting over. I should be able to plug back in some bits but generally it will mean new stuff.

Any insight from those of you who write would be appreciated. What is your slant on re-writes and edits?

Ok, gotta gear up to head out and errand before Friday turns to madness.

Kisses darlings...
